Our Story

We met at Ft. Sam Houston in our mid-20s in San Antonio, during advanced Army medic training. Dave was living in Florida, although he grew up in Michigan, and I was from western Maryland at the time. It was love at first sight with getting engaged after six weeks (!!!) and marriage the following year. We honeymooned in Colorado, settled in the Tampa Bay area, starting a family and two very different careers. Dave has had a 25+ career with professional fire departments and Maria enjoyed a long career in non-profit management & fundraising prior to becoming a full-time Realtor in 2011.

We started vacationing in Murphy in 2007 after we won a bid for a family cabin rental during a live auction at our church. Our kids were little and we said, β€œwhy not?” We also said, β€œwhere is Murphy?” LOL πŸ˜‰ Well, we had a WONDERFUL week that first summer in 2007!! Horseback riding, caving, train rides, tubing, gem mining, zip lining, fire pits, you name it! And during many subsequent summer and fall trips, we came back to that cabin and others in the area, not only with our girls, but also with extended family, friends, and alone as a couple.

We came to ❀ the Appalachian town of Murphy. Not only is it the county seat of Cherokee County, Murphy is known for its lovely flower-lined downtown, nature Riverwalk and lots of cute shops, eateries, art gallery, casino...even a Porsche driving experience. We know it's value because of it's central location to spring board to tri-state activities within a 90-minute radius. Plus...two rivers run through the town, the Nottley River and the Hiawassee River, pretty cool. We basically fell in love with Murphy and made it our goal to eventually own a home here. In June 2020 during the COVID-19 nationwide shutdown we purchased our 1st cabin to renovate and use as a family getaway. But after a major career opportunity brought vacation time adjustments for Dave, rather than have the cabin sit empty for most of the year, we decided to share with others like yourselves to build your own memories. We are very proud of Woods Upon a Time and of our 100% 5-star⭐reviews.

The following year we purchased the pond property in front of Woods, and in spring 2022 we took the opportunity to purchase a 2nd, larger cabin Skyview Station about a mile away. Once again we decided to remodel, this time the entire downstairs area, offering families with teens and young adults some 'hangout' areas.

Each cabin has its own personality and offerings. After a full day, you come back in the evenings to movies, fire pit or a game of pool, watch sunsets from the front porch at Skyview, watch the birds or take a stroll around the pond at Woods, or just get to that book you've meant to read. These cabins are our 'babies' and we want you to feel right at home, cared for as family.
